Weight loss rules that actually work

Unfortunately, there is no real tried-and-tested quick fix when it comes to losing weight, and keeping it off. Although we would all much prefer to take a magic pill and be our ideal size, that’s just not the case. There are, however, some weight loss rules that really work, that will help you get to your goal.

Keep your workouts varied

Sure, cardio is great for burning calories, but so are weights! Some exercises will burn calories while you are in the gym, while other types will be more of a slow burn in the future. Strength training helps to boost your metabolism which will benefit you in the long run. It is important to mix these different types of exercise into your routine for the greatest benefit.

Look at your diet

Of course, this sounds obvious but so many people go hard at the gym, and wonder why they are not losing any weight, If you are really trying hard with exercise, but not seeing any results, it’s time to look at your diet and make sure your effort there is just as good.

Eat more often, not more

Smaller meals spread out throughout the day means you are likely to get less hungry and look to snacking. Try to control your portions and eat around four to six meals a day. Make it a habit, and you will start to see the benefit.

Cut the carbs

Okay, so carbs are delicious, but they are not conducive to easy weight loss. Of course, you need carbs for energy, so it’s important not to cut them out entirely, but if you limit your carb intake, you will make losing those extra pounds much easier. Some carbs are better than others, for example, swap a normal potato for a sweet potato for a similar taste and texture but with slightly fewer carbs.

Put movement into everyday

Ramp up your exercise by adding it into every part of your day. Take the stairs rather than the lift, go for a walk at lunch, park further away, so you have to walk a little further. Set yourself targets, or make it competitive with friends. Anything you can do to burn those extra calories.

Make it as fun as possible

When it comes to working out, try to focus on getting those endorphins pumping. Exercise can be fun if you find what’s right for you. That could be Zumba, pilates, circuit training, dance or boot camp – whatever it takes for you to want to get up and move. Make your food tasty and interesting – dry chicken and rice every day won’t spur you on!
Remember, losing weight isn’t supposed to be easy, but it will be worth it. If you follow these rules, you are giving yourself the best chance possible to lose the extra weight and get to your target. You can do it!
