The world has always been entranced with the Royal Family and now even more so with the two new additions to the Royal Family, namely Kate and Meghan. Royal weddings have always been a massive event from the dress to the make-up and do not forget the cake! But have you ever wondered what Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana, and Kate decided to wear fragrance-wise at their weddings? Well, hold on tight, because in this article we will discuss their respective fragrances and the reasoning behind it!
Queen Elizabeth (married 20 November 1947)
Queen Elizabeth’s perfume is the trickiest to determine as no one has confirmed which perfume the Queen wore on her wedding day to this date. It is highly suspected, however, that she wore White Rose from Floris, estimated to cost around $135 USD. The Floris brand has been supported by the Royal Family since 1820. White rose also just happens to be the Queen’s favorite flower. The perfume has a beautiful rosy, jasmine, and carnation smell.
Princess Diana (married 29 July 1981)
Princess Diana wore Quelques Fleurs L’Original by Houbigant Paris on her wedding day. It costs around $100 USD and has scents with notes of jasmine, tuberose, lily of the valley, and sandalwood. The perfume almost resulted in a mini-disaster for the poor Princess on her wedding day as she spilled some of the wonderful perfume on her dress creating a stain. Luckily, her make-up artist came up with an idea and told her to lift her dress up slightly as she walks down the aisle to hide the stains. This plan worked brilliantly and the crowds of people were none the wiser!
Kate Middleton (married 29 April 2011)
Kate Middleton is loved by many because of her graceful and elegant nature. She so naturally filled the expectations that were suddenly required of her and was able to do it with such grace, that she now has many fans rooting for her and it almost feels like she was born to be a royal. On her wedding day, she decided to wear White Gardenia Petals by Illuminum. This perfume costs around $150 USD (the most expensive perfume of all the royals) and nearly sold out the day following Kate Middleton’s wedding. This perfume has hints of gardenia, muguet, jasmine, and amber tones. Illuminum is a brand that has only been recently placed on the market (for about 10 years), so once again Kate followed in her own footsteps and set a new trend instead of going with the cliché.
Just for fun – Meghan Markle (married 19 May 2018)
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry actually wore the same perfume on their wedding day! They decided to wear a unisex perfume created by Floris which is part of their private collection and is not available to the public. This perfume has scents of wood and spice, bergamot, orange blossom, and green tea. The perfume is very similar to one of Floris’ other perfumes, called Bergamotto di Positano. Bergamotto di Positano has scents of bergamot, marine, mandarin, green tea, orange blossom, ginger, vanilla amber, spice, and ambrette woods. Surprisingly, this perfume has no jasmine scent in it which seems to be a trend amongst the female royals!
