It seems like practically everyone is an Instagram influencer these days, mastering the art of making your life seem better than it probably is. We can’t seem to stop looking through these photos on Instagram of people on vacation, driving luxurious cars, and having the time of their lives. And while it’s easy to get jealous, we should probably keep in mind it’s mostly for show.
Sometimes, we get blatant proof of just how fake things can get online. These people, for example, didn’t do such a great job photoshopping their pictures before posting them, which resulted in some hilarious and awkward mistakes.
Very own personal clouds
On Instagram, it’s pretty essential that you make people think you have this super glamorous life, you know – to make them jealous. We’re not sure if this Instagrammer photoshopped herself into some really nice backgrounds to pretend she’s been traveling a lot, or if she’s just been editing the photos to look extra perfect. Either way, it might have been a little lazy of her to use the same set of clouds for every photo, because someone seemed to take notice.
Do you really need an armpit?
We get it, girls. You want to make yourselves seem perfect so you do a little editing on Photoshop. No harm in that, right? Well, you might want to watch it not to take things too far. We’re pretty sure these girls are beautiful enough to have posted the original photo and still keep their many followers. Imperfections aren’t the enemy, and if you blur them out too much, you just end up with no armpits – and that’s no way to live.
Everything is wrong
Oh, the horror. We don’t even know what this girl did to this photo to make it look like this, but we have several suspicions. The truth is, pretty much everything about it seems twisted and wrong. Last time we’ve checked, human beings don’t look this blurry. And if you take a look at the setting around her, it’s pretty obvious some alterations have been made, as everything is crooked. Pretty bad Photoshop job, if you ask us.
Taped to the wall
Here we see a couple of comedic parents who photoshopped their kids taped to the wall, presumably for their annual Christmas card. The only problem here is that the kids are about two times bigger than their parents, making it clear that they were photoshopped in. However this imagine was clearly meant to be comical so we’ll let the horrible Photoshop job slide. We have to say we’re glad this was done with Photoshop and we hope the kids were not taped to the wall.
Where’s her arm?
This model is so beautiful already that we don’t understand why she would need Photoshop in the first place. She is modeling a top commonly referred to as a “cold shoulder top” and it seems that she’s taking the name of the top literally by only showing her shoulder. The editor of this photo clearly didn’t think including both of this model’s arms was important but unfortunately for them the Internet noticed and had something to say about it.
Fake lake house
Here we see a photo on the photographer’s Instagram account. Maybe this photographer wanted to show of their abilities to do photoshoots in nature but they didn’t live close enough to a lake. From what we can tell of this picture, a woman in a peaceful yoga pose was photoshopped onto a background with a serene lake and a house. Just based on the lighting and the proportions of her body, it’s pretty obvious that something in this picture is way off.
This Photoshop fail has nothing to do with the gymnasts on their hoops but rather the hoops themselves. While the hoop on the right is held up by a rope, the one on the left is magically suspended in mid-air, probably to make room for all that text. With all due respect to this aspiring Olympian, while we agree she is definitely talented, we don’t think she’s talented enough to defy the laws of gravity.
Do you lift?
This tough guy wanted to show his friends how strong he is but unfortunately for him, his Photoshop skills are not quite good enough to fool his friends. While in the front of the photo it looks like this guy is lifting about 200 pounds with ease, if you take a peak in the mirror behind him, you can see that there was only one weight on each side of him. Oops! We suggest this guy focus on building his muscles instead of his Photoshop skills.
You’ve likely seen a photoshopped picture of a woman where she tries to enhance her… assets, but photoshopping one’s body does not discriminate based on gender! Here we see a group of friends that have all worked out together but you’ll notice that the guy in the foreground looks like he worked out a lot more than his colleagues. His biceps are bulging out so much that when compared to his lower arm, it’s clear that they were edited.
Body by Photoshop
Standing outdoors next to so many vertical lines, it is glaringly obvious that this woman used a resizing tool to make her waist slimmer. The edge of the grass to her left literally curves inward, just like her digitally cinched-in waist. We really wish she would have accepted her figure, instead of altering her appearance in a way that is both discernable way, setting an impossible beauty standard for herself and whoever else looks at this photo.
They didn’t try
Here is a case of a photoshopper who did not even hide the fact that they were bad at editing photos. A simple square photo of this adorable kid was placed over another child’s face with a completely different background than the leather couch of the main photo. We can’t be too mad at this photo, however, as these kids are so cute that the Photoshop fail doesn’t seem to matter.
This photo looks innocent enough at first glance but upon closer look you can tell that something is off. Look a this adorable kid’s right hand that is holding the phone and prepare to laugh. His hand is so contorted and in such a strange position that doesn’t even seem humanly possible. In addition, it looks like there was a finger added near his thumb. This looks like it was taken from a kid’s magazine and undoubtedly many children were confused by this picture.
Ooh la la! Photoshop!
For those of us who can’t afford luxury vacations but still love to travel Photoshop can be a great tool to superimpose ourselves in far off destinations. However, posting a photoshopped picture of yourself claiming you are in a different country is something that will get you a lot of negative attention. This woman seems to have taken an image of Paris off of the Internet and then place herself in the foreground. While she did do a pretty good job of editing the photo, it is still extremely obvious that she wasn’t really in Paris.
You know that feeling when your group of friends is out having fun but you are stuck at work or home sick in bed and you feel upset about missing out on the fun? This is a phenomenon commonly referred to as FOMO or “fear of missing out.” Well, this girl in the front of her group of friends was so sad about not being involved in this social outing that she photoshopped herself in after the event.
When making an advertisement it is important that there are no mistakes as it can make or break the popularity of a product. The advertisers of this back shaver (which is an odd enough product as it is) made a pretty careless mistake by not having their model hold the shaver itself. It is clear that the model is not actually gripping the shaver and it has been lazily photoshopped into his hand.
Here is yet another instance of a family missing one of their members and photoshopping them in. We can imagine that this kid was away at college but he couldn’t make it back it back in time for the holidays. Not wanting to miss out on the family fun, this guy asked his parents if there was someway he could still be included in their family photo and this lazy Photoshop job was the result. We hope he asked for Photoshop software for Christmas.
We all want to feel included when our friends are out having fun but if we can’t be there with them we may go to great lengths to make it look like we are having fun too. This group of friends missed their buddy so much that they included him in their get together by editing him in, but it sort of looks like that scene from The Wizard of Oz where we just see the floating head of the Great and Powerful Oz. There’s no place like home-spun Photoshop!
What’s missing from this magazine photo? It’s pretty clear that this model is missing their left leg. Whoever is interested in buying this suit may be curious to know where the other pant leg went. The editor of this photo may have got a little too click-happy and is probably regretting not double checking their work after seeing this photo printed in a magazine. Hopefully, next time they’ll think before they Photoshop.
Spelling bees can get pretty intense when there are money and prizes on the line but we don’t think this girl was this intense about spelling a word. It is very obvious that another face was pasted on top of this young speller’s face as the photoshopped face is a different tone than her real forehead. We wonder if this girl was sticking her tongue out or making some silly face that forced this newspaper to Photoshop a different face on her head.
Here’s someone who really wanted to get into the Christmas spirit. As kids many of us believe in Santa and write letters to the North Pole in hopes that he will send us the toys we want. But this kid knew that Santa was just a myth that parents tell their kids and they took things into their own hands by inserting their face onto the body of Santa. The cat beside this photoshopped Santa looks pretty confused about it.
Blurred to bits
We don’t want to insult this girl because we know she just wanted to look good in her Instagram photo. And while we think she is beautiful, it is clear that her face has been heavily edited just by comparing her to the guy beside her. She either photoshopped a different photo of herself onto her body or she used the blurring tool to smooth over every wrinkle and blemish on her face. We think that she doesn’t need any filter and that confidence and a smile are all she needs.
Hiring a professional photographer to take photos can be extremely costly and take up a lot of time. Well to save some dough and be efficient with their time, these two decided to superimpose their faces on two models instead of hiring a photographer. Whether they did it to add to their modeling portfolio or just for fun, no one is gullible enough to think that the bodies in this photo really belong to the faces on top of them.
The picture on the left is the real photo of this muscley man and the photo on the right is the edited one. You might have noticed that the two photos are pretty similar but not quite the same. On the right you can see that this man has not only edited his muscles to make them look larger than they already are, but he also edited the furniture beside him to look smaller. This gives the illusion that his muscles are gigantic.
Everyone is free to do what they want when it comes to photo editing. If it makes you feel more confident about posting a photo to your followers then go for it but there has to be a little subtly to the art of photo editing. This woman wanted to make her waist look slimmer in this photo but in the process she made it look very obvious as the editing technique she used made the table beside her bulge out.
Ready Player One is a sci-fi film that was based on a novel of the same name. The fact that this was a professionally done film makes it all the more embarrassing that this poster for the film was a major Photoshop fail. Look at the character in the foreground and you’ll see that his right leg is stretched out a little too much while he’s climbing that wall. Unless this movie was about long-legged people, this was a major fail on the part of the artist who made this poster.
It’s not real
If you think that this picture is too good to be true it’s because it is. Thrill seekers are always out to find the next big thing that will give them a rush of adrenaline. Here we see a thrill seeking off-road motorcyclist who likely got the biggest thrill of their life from performing this trick. However, this is physically impossible feat as the motorcycle would be too heavy and would fall on top of the person on it.
Every kid wants to look cool in front of his friends, however, this kid took it to a whole new level. You’ve likely seen someone on the street posing in front of a cool car that isn’t their own but we bet you’ve never seen someone actually edit themselves into a picture of a car. This young man is standing in front of a car worth more than $2 million dollars so it’s pretty understandable why he would want to look like he owns it.
How many hands?
Here’s a happy family that wants you to know about their 30% off sale! But if you take another look you’ll see that there’s something off with the father figure in this fake family. This guy who is modeling a lovely $27 t-shirt has one hand by his side and one hand on his fake daughter. But he also has a hand around the shoulder of his fake wife. While the photo editor may have been trying to show how happy and loving this family is, they ended up making a strange advertisement.
Here we see a beautiful family standing in front of some picturesque mountains. It’s pretty obvious, however, that the father in this family was obviously not there when the picture was taken. It looks like he was there at a different time based on the background behind him. The picture of him alone was then morphed into the picture of the rest of the family. This almost would have worked if they hadn’t cut off half of his body.
In a parking lot?
If you are anything like us you must get frustrated when you see your friends on Snapchat or Instagram taking videos while they are driving. It’s a pretty dangerous thing to do as drivers should be focused on the road and not on their phones. This woman wanted her followers to think she was sitting in traffic, however, it’s clear from the background that she is actually parked in a parking lot. Although this is a definite fail, we’re just happy that she wasn’t driving while snapping a photo.
Here we see a lovely group of friends at the University of Nevada Las Vegas who posed to snap this cute picture. But unfortunately, it looks like one of their friends didn’t make it out of class in time to be featured in the photo. To fix that problem, her friends photoshopped her in a very noticeable way. It is clear that the sidewalk color under her feet is different than the rest of the sidewalk and her entire left leg and arm are blurred out of picture.
One arm out
Shopping never looked so confusing to us. Lilly Pulitzer was advertising one of the brand’s dresses on Facebook and this user noticed there was something a little off about the picture. It is clear that the model’s right arm was accidentally edited out when the designer of this picture added in a white background. We wonder why this model even needs to be edited as she is perfect just the way she is but if a brand feels the need to edit their ads they should do it carefully.
Finger lickin’ good
When Domino’s pizza used their boxes as a way to promote the reality television singing competition they decided to include the silhouette of a performing singer. Here we can see the performer with outstretched arms giving the perception that they just won the competition. If you notice their hands, however, you will be able to count six fingers instead of the usual five that most humans have. On the bright side, this person has a lot of fingers to grip the microphone.
In this ad for Victoria’s Secret clothing it seems that Victoria is hiding something from us in that invisible purse! While the handles of the bag appear in the picture, the rest of the purse has magically disappeared. We are assuming that the designer of this advertisement wanted it without the purse since it seems the brand does not sell purses, however, they left in the handles just to confuse shoppers.
There seems to be a major issue when it comes to Photoshop and hands. Either hands disappear or fingers are added. Here we see a mashup of major fails ranging from the addition of unneeded fingers to twisted and morphed into each other. We didn’t know fingers could bend that way and we hope this model isn’t in too much pain. The worst part of all of this is that this is on the front of a magazine and won’t be going unnoticed.
This model must be holding on the her heel for support since she only has one leg to stand on. We understand that the fashion industry wants clothing models to look a certain way but if their standards include having their models remove body parts then we don’t want to read fashion magazines anymore. But in all seriousness, we know that magazines use Photoshop on models but we never imagine they’d go this far.
In this Old Navy advertisement we see two women who look overly excited about getting a great deal on dresses. The model on the left is so excited in fact that she gained the ability to wrap her arm around her entire body. She must be quadruple jointed in order to bend her limbs like that but thankfully she doesn’t look like she’s in pain. We can forgive the Photoshop fail just based on the fact that the prices at this store are so low!
Here we see a happy chef showing of her pizza and her strange claw arm. The oven mitts and the pizza we both clearly Photoshopped into this picture and it looks like the background may have been edited in as well. We can’t even tell what the toppings are on these pizza since they are so faked and blurred together. This photo is the perfect example of why people have trust issues. You can’t mess around when it comes to pizza.
High School Musical
Many of us remember the hit movie trilogy High School Musical and how we loved singing along to all catchy songs. But did you ever take a closer look at the poster for the sequel? Not only does one of the characters in this photo have an extra hand but another has a few to many fingers and one has an extra piece of arm on their dress. We guess the people at Disney were too focused on the success of the franchise that they missed this Photoshop fail.
Got a hand?
The Got Milk ads are a great campaign are a noble effort to try and get Americans to get their daily intake of calcium but the editors of this Olympic advertisement may have overlooked one small detail. If you notice the athlete in the swimsuit has an arm on her shoulder and it is presumably attached to someone’s arm, however, there is no arm in sight. Thankfully, the viewers of this ad may have been more focused on the milk mustaches and not the mysterious hand.
This advertisement seems innocent enough at first glance. The musician Hunter Hayes partnered with McDonald’s to promote his music but we didn’t realize that Hayes was also Peter Pan. If you don’t know what we are referring to take a look at the shadow on the wall. Hayes is simply standing with his hands in his pockets but on the wall it seems as though he’s holding something in his hands.
Somehow we don’t think it would be comfortable for this model to be standing with her legs in completely opposite directions. Unless one of her legs is coming out of the wrong side of her body, we think this was the work of a neglectful photo editor. Nobody would be able to balance like this or stand in this position without crying in pain. The model doesn’t seem to mind and her outfit looks great so we’ll let this one slide.
This poor kid did not know what he was getting himself into when he posed for this photo while modeling some snazzy pajamas. Not only does it look like a different head was photoshopped onto his body but also adult hands and feet. Every piece of this picture is over edited and the body parts are so mishmashed that this boy doesn’t even look human anymore. This a great example of how not to edit a photo.
The missing arm
The fashion industry isn’t exactly known for its realistic depiction of external beauty. For this cover photo we have Vogue magazine touting the celebration of the “modern American woman” with a row of beautiful women. Take a closer look at Gigi Hadid – standing right in the middle – whose hand seems to be made of rubber, as it stretches to about one and a half the size of a normal hand. Sell that Photoshop, dahling! Work it.
Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyongo’s took to Instagram to slam this Photoshop fail. For Grazia Magazine’s cover shoot they removed her hair and lightening her skin color. “I am disappointed that [they] invited me to be on their cover and then edited out and smoothed my hair to for their notion of what beautiful hair looks like,” she wrote. Her followers followed suit and wrote tons of messages in support. Ciao, Grazia!
Pretty little no-nos
Freeform created this promo for the 2016 season of the hit teen drama series Pretty Little Liars. The show is known for its juicy melodrama and gorgeous women in high fashion. They tried to highlight this in the ad and managed to fail miserably when they totally got rid of actress Sasha Pieterse’s left leg. Now, we’re not sure if Pieterse’s character Allison has a leg to stand on, but we would bet it was meant to appear intact in this photo.
A ghost story
Can you spot what’s wrong with this image? Take a look at the model’s arm and see if you can spot something… ominous. Is it a ghost? Is it a phantom? Is it the hand of girlfriend’s past? Or is it just an epic fail on Vans’ end? This model had a girl around his arm before the editors decided to take her out altogether and keep the focus on him. We don’t know who she is but somewhere out there is another Vans ad with a woman’s hand mysteriously missing.
A bit exaggerated
What man out there hasn’t fantasized about bulging muscles and a fit body? He could impress that crush who just feels so out of reach. He could look good in a bathing suit and turn heads with his physique and macho swagger, like the Arnold Schwarzeneggers and Chris Hemsworths of the world. This guy, however, may have taken it a bit too far. Tip: when using Photoshop to jack up your muscles, be sure to expand the illusion to your whole body.
In an effort to whip her hair back in forth – or at least to look like she can – this woman was inspired to give the appearance of long, luscious, two-tone hair… except for one crucial detail: it’s fake. You can see in the reflection behind her the actual hair length, missing that oh-so-natural looking patch of dark hair beneath her blond locks. Next time, sister, just rock your bob and be happy with it.
There’s no denying that Ariana Grande is a bonafide star. The chanteuse has released a number of hit records and sold out arena tours. On Instagram she is known for posting gorgeous and fashion forward photos like this one. One thing stand out to us, however. It looks like Grande has the upper hand here. In fact, her hand appears to be double the size. We’re sure the diva gave her social media team an earful.
We’re not sure why this shot required Photoshop but here we are. Fifth Harmony’s Ally Brooke seems to have two right feet in this magazine shot. We know Photoshop as the tool used to make the imperfect look perfect but not the other way around. This major fail literally creates unrealistic beauty standards with the replacement of the same foot. To us, this appears like the worst kind of Photoshop fail, because it never should have been a thought to begin with. Maybe that editor currently Works From Home.
We all hate skin problems: the acne, the wrinkles, the sunburn. It’s never a fun time to walk around with a blemish or mole and you think can’t help but think that everyone is staring at you. Who wouldn’t want to smooth their skin out from time to time? John Mayer and his friend certainly do, as they nearly photoshopped themselves into oblivion. Perhaps he was auditioning to be the next Madame Tussauds wax model, we’re not sure.
A balancing act
The fashion industry used Photoshop as liberally as they go through a box of safety pins. Over the years, models get skinnier and skinnier and the clothes get smaller and smaller. This model had her waist brought in, as any magazine does from the get-go, but rather than bring the entire outfit in with her, they opted for keeping the skirt suspended in mid-air. Now it looks like that patterned skirt is a lamp shade with the model dropped right at its center. Whoops.
