Ryan Murphy came up with the idea for an anthology horror series while working on the musical comedy series Glee. After several years’ worth of the up-tempo teen comedy, he knew he wanted to do something darker and grittier. As a fan of ’80s horror films he wanted a series that featured that same heart pounding suspense and violence as in A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Evil Dead. He teamed up with writing partner Brad Falchuk and began pitching the idea to networks. It didn’t take long for the idea to gain steam and FX immediately jumped on the idea and the series was set into motion.

Ramona is a former film star famous for a series of B-movies that mostly featured her dying in the end. She craved the spotlight and tried to move to more serious films. While working as an actress she met Elizabeth (Lady Gaga) and the two had a roller coaster affair.

Their relationship turns tumultuous and like American Horror Story’s true style, things eventually turn violent and messy. Spoiler alert – she is one of the few characters to survive Hotel.

Bassett was nominated for an Oscar for playing Tina Turner in the biopic What’s Love Got to Do with It. She went on to star in the hit films Contact, Green Lantern, and Akeelah and the Bee. The Yale University graduate began working consistently on screen and on stage in the mid ‘70s.

She starred in three seasons of American Horror Story and currently leads a new Ryan Murphy-created series, 9-1-1. She has been married to actor Courtney B. Vance since 1997.
