Fisher was a reserved child growing up, and said that she had often “hid in books” when she was a kid, and became known to her family and friends as “the bookworm.” However, as she grew into a teenager, she decided to follow in her mother’s footsteps.
She left Beverly Hills High School at age 15, in order to make her acting debut in the popular 1973 Broadway revival of Irene, where she played a debutante singer alongside her mother, who was the show’s star. Fisher eventually finished school, but this time attended Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Following high school she attended Sarah Lawrence College in New York, where she studied arts, but ended up dropping out before she could graduate.
