Emos cultivated something of a strange relationship with cameras. When they weren’t glaring at them or avoiding them, they were making, shall we say, off-kilter faces at the camera, as if someone else had stuck it in their face and they weren’t actually taking a selfie.
As a result, almost every photo of an emo leaves them looking bewildered, rather than knowing. The beaming smile this woman has several years later is definitely an improvement – although worryingly, she seems to exist in black and white now.
